요즘 작업의 관심은 나비가 머물렀던 자리에 집중된다.
그림을 시작할 때 자유와 자연을 담으려 했다.
꽃으로는 자유를 표현하기에 한계가 있어 나비를 찾아 다녔다.
박제된 나비는 언젠간 핀을 뽑고, 유리창을 깨고 날려 보내리라 결심했다.
나비가 내 몸이라면 배경으로 쓰이는 공간은 나의 정신이라 여겼다.
그 공간은 흰 여백으로 시작하여 여러 한국적인 모티프를 찾아 헤매다가
근래에는 도자의 표면에서 한 동안 머물러 있었다.
작품의 진화는 항상 낱말 꼬리물기와 같다.
날아다니는 형태의 꽃에서 나비로… 나비의 배경이 흰 여백에서 한지의 느낌으로...
또 화강석의 느낌으로… 또 도자의 느낌으로…
도자의 울퉁불퉁한 마그마 같은 굽에서 금속의 느낌으로…
금속은 시간의 흐름에 따라 부식하며 변색한다.
요즘은 울퉁불퉁한 프랙탈 형태의 금속부식의 표면에 관심이 집중된다.
이 또한 이도다완의 굽에 형성된 매화피가 진화하여 화면의 테두리에만 머물다가
지금은 화면 중앙부 깊숙이 진출한다.
요즘의 작업은 철저히 계산된 의도적인 표현과 예측 가능한 우연적인 요소를
적절하게 컨트롤이 가능하기에 재밌다.
네러티브는 범위가 넓게는 우주와 하늘을...
때로는 우리 강산의 산야를 표현할 수 있고,
작게는 미립자와 같은 세포나 물질의 결정과 조직을 표현할 수 있다.
항상 그렇듯이 두 가지의 상반된 메시지를 전달하려 한다.
고정된 나비를 통해서 현실의 억압과 동시에 자유의지를 향한 강렬한 갈망.
흰 여백에 나비 하나와 학명 한 줄의 글자를 통해 비움과 채움...
즉 비워야만 채울 수 있다는 철학적 수양...
도자의 자잘하게 나누어진 크랙을 통해서 단절과 동시에 크랙 둘레의 상감 선들을
통해서 파편끼리의 연결, 이음... 끊을 수 없는 인간관계.
금속부식 표면의 느낌과 정교한 금색 상감의 선이나 점을 통해 유구한 세월의 무덤덤한
기다림과 반짝반짝 빛나며 빠른 속도로 변모하는 현 세태를 동시에 반영한다.
겹겹이 쌓여지는 투터운 질감의 붓질은 자유로우나 멀리서 보면 심포니와 같이
어떤 한 지휘자에 맞추어 질서 있게 마티에르는 율동하고 노래한다.
은행잎이 흐트러져 쌓인다.
자연에서 보았을 때는 이것은 지극히 질서를 유지하고 있는 것이다.
만일 낙엽이 깻잎 장아찌처럼 차곡차곡 쌓인다면 그것이 오히려 무질서가 아닌가?

Introduction
About the work(Artist's note)
These days, I'm paying attention to the spot where a butterfly stayed.
When I start painting, I try to include freedom and nature.
Since flowers are not enough to express freedom, I search for butterflies.
I determined to pull a pin out of a stuffed butterfly, break the window and fly it someday.
If a butterfly is my body, the space in the background should be my spirit.
That space begins from a white blank, searches for various Korean motifs,
and for now it stays at the surface of the pottery for a while.
Evolution of work is always like word chain.
From a flying flower to a butterfly... a white blank background of a butterfly
to texture of hanji (Korean traditional paper)...
Again the feeling of a pottery... bending of pottery to metal sense...
Metal rusts and discolors along with the stream of time.
These days, I'm interested in metal rust surface in fractal form.
This also advances into the screen center deeply for now,
while it was staying in the edge of the screen as Maehwapi formed on
Yidodawan's heel evolves.
Nowadays, I can properly control balance between thoroughly calculated expression and predictable random factors,
which is interesting to me. Narrative can express the universe and the sky widely...
sometimes the mountains and the fields of our land,
in smaller ways, cells as particles or crystal and texture of a material.
As always, my work tells two conflicting messages.
Suppression of reality through fixed butterfly, simultaneously
a strong desire for free will.
Through a butterfly in the blank, emptiness and filling...
a philosophy that one can be filled after it's be emptied...
Division through the crack separated to pieces... at the same time
connection and communication... inseparable human relationship
through the inlay lines along with the crack.
Through the corroded metal surface, golden lay line, and spots,
calm waiting of long time and at the same time current trend
which is splendid and rapidly changing are expressed.
Several layered thick texture stroke of brush looks free,
however from a distance, just like a symphony, matiere dances and sings
in orderly along with a conductor.
Ginkgo leaves scatter and pile up.
From the viewpoint of the nature, this truly maintains the order.
If fallen leaves pile up in order just like perilla leaf pickle,
isn't it a disorder?
