▼ Cloud(011707) 운보미술관에서 3인전을 초대받은 후에 운보선생께서 생전에 담배피우는 자료를 보고 떠올린 컨셉이다. 나비가 많이 새겨진 유기담배합(부산시립박물관 소장)을 모티프로 평면으로 펼쳐놓았다. 황동판을 두들겨서 뚜껑을 만들고 그 표면에 문양을 세공한 문화재로 섬세함과 문양배열이 아름다움의 극치로 보여졌다. 비록 궐련을 보관하는 통이지만 마치 예술 혼이 담겨있는 보배와 같았다. 일상의 작은 용기로 쓰였던 물건에도 아름다움을 표현해낸 선조 장인들의 예술 혼이 자랑스럽다. 원작의 애틋한 수고로움을 알기에 본 작품에 수십 번 덧칠하고 깎아내는 과정을 반복하여 오래된 느낌을 표현하려했다. 운보선생과 유기 담배합과 나의 공통된 연관성을 찾고 합리화하는 조금은 생뚱맞은 생각을 작업으로 연장시켰다. 그 담배연기는 구름이 되어 자유롭게 세상을 떠돌아다닐 것이다.
The work concept is based on the material that shows master Woonbo who smoked when he was invited to an exhibition at Woonbo art museum. With the brassware cigar box full of butterfly, displayed at Busan City Museum, as a motif, was spread flat. Its cap is made by beating a brass plate, on the surface, an extreme beauty is expressed through delicateness and pattern arrangement through. Though a box of cigars, it's like a treasure of an artistic spirit. I'm proud of the ancient masters' artistic spirit to express beauty even in daily small vessels. Since I know the earnest efforts of the original, I tried to express antique feeling by repeating scores of times of painting and cutting. I extended a somewhat weird idea to search common ground between master Unbo's brassware cigar box and my work and rationalize. That smoke will become a cloud and freely fly over the world.
